End of the school holidays, end of the marriage? Why September can be a busy time for families and family lawyers

For couples already facing challenges, time away from the everyday can magnify existing issues, often leading to the difficult decision to end the marriage. Chloe Langdon, Specialist Family Solicitor, explores why the period following summer holidays is often one of the busiest times of year for family law professionals.

“… The decision to end the marriage is never an easy one and if you have children, the timing of it can make things complex. Sadly, but perhaps not unsurprisingly, divorce rates reveal that 42% of marriages end in divorce and the “peak” age is between 40 and 44. The medium length of a marriage is 12.9 years and one of the main reasons for divorce is that the couple simply “fall out of love”. Historically, women have been more likely to apply for divorce than men.”
