Public Law and Community Care

We assist individuals in disputes with public authorities such as local authorities, housing associations and central government departments. We represent clients in judicial review proceedings brought before the High Court in actions based on the Human Rights Act.  We can assist with official complaints to the appropriate ombudsman or regulator.

The areas in which we have particular expertise include:
  • Disputes with local housing authorities over their duties towards the homeless
  • Challenging social services and/or the National Asylum Support Service concerning the welfare rights of asylum seekers and other persons from abroad
  • Challenging social services/NHS trusts in relation to the provision of care for the sick, elderly or infirm
  • Disputes with social services over their treatment of children in need and their families, looked after children, and young people leaving care.

What will it cost?

Depending upon your financial circumstances you may qualify for legal aid (now called public funding). We will automatically carry out an assessment when we first meet with you to see whether or not you are eligible.

If you are not entitled to public funding we will discuss with you other ways of funding your case including no win no fee agreements (conditional fee agreements).
